Are you wanting smooth and creamy honey but just aren’t getting that texture with your regular honey? I’m going to show you a great way to make smooth, delicious, whipped honey.
This easy whipped honey recipe has a perfect creamy consistency for drizzling over buttered bread, topping a baked brie, or simply adding to herbal tea. This simple recipe is also the perfect way to use crystallized honey that may have sat for too long in the pantry or cabinet.
Whether your honey comes from the grocery store, a local beekeeper, or purchased in bulk like me, you can make whipped honey at home!
What is Whipped Honey?
Whipped honey is similar to any other substance that is whipped (cream, butter, etc.). Air is added to it through the process of whipping and you’re left with a lighter, fluffier texture than before.

I personally prefer to make whipped honey with crystallized honey. Crystallized honey is simply honey that has thickened up with small crystals, making it difficult to spread or really use in any way that doesn’t require dissolving. There are ways to warm honey to dissolve the sugar crystals and bring it back to a usable consistency, but I prefer to whip it.
Don’t confuse whipped honey with creamed honey. They are actually two different things, though equally delicious! Whipped honey is easily made at home, and it also makes a lovely gift, so let’s get started.
Whipped Honey Recipe Ingredients and Supplies
Here’s what you’ll need to make whipped honey at home:
- Room temperature honey (I use honey that’s crystallized)
- Hand Mixer or Stand Mixer with a whisk attachment
- Clean jar
- Rubber spatula
For larger quantities of honey, opt for whipping honey in a stand mixer since it does take 5 to 10 minutes to whip. If you’re just making a pint of whipped honey, they a hand mixer should work just fine. Once you’ve got your supplies in place, you’re ready to go!
I buy my honey in bulk from Azure Standard, and it’s one of the easiest ways to get good quality honey other than my local beekeepers.
How to Whip Honey at Home
Feel free to scroll down to the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post. Otherwise, here are the simple instructions to make whipped honey at home.
- Begin by adding honey to the bowl of your stand mixer or another stable bowl if you’re using a hand mixer.
- Turn mixer on to medium speed and begin the whipping process. Once my mixer gets going and I can tell that all of the honey is being reached by the whisk, I increase the speed to medium or medium high.
- Allow the honey to whip for 5-10 minutes, until the color is much lighter (this depends on the original color of your honey), and a spoon dipped in comes back with honey of a creamy texture.
- Once whipped, use a rubber spatula to transfer honey to a clean jar.
- Store in a cool, dark place and use as needed.
How to Store Honey
For whipped honey, it’s stored much like regular natural honey.
- Store in an airtight container
- Place in a cool, dark place, like a pantry or cabinet
- Honey does not need refrigeration
